Women Rising

Women Rising is an event created to promoting, supporting, and recognizing the talent of women of all ages and background in the arts community in San Jose. The event provides the public with the opportunity to see art, listen to music and poetry by women, while empowering them to be leaders and provoking responses from the audience on the topic. The first Women Rising took place in October of 2010, with close to 200 attendees and over 40 women in the creative arts participating in the event. We are dedicated to making our event available to a diverse audience base and hope to make every show fully accessible.

I’ve been feeling sick these past 2 days which has filled my days with sleeping, watching Netflix, roaming the internet and thinking. The latter part has included Women Rising and how we can improve it. Here is a list I made:

• A wall filled with poetry or stories (and still include art)
• Have a $5 minimum donation or $3 with a canned food donation
• Live art
• Send out press packets to media
